What is Nextdoor?
Nextdoor is a neighborhood-specific social network that allows people in your neighborhood to discuss local issues, give recommendations for local businesses, and report lost pets or suspicious activity. Nextdoor describes itself as:
“Nextdoor is the neighborhood hub for trusted connections and the exchange of helpful information, goods, and services. We believe that by bringing neighbors together, we can cultivate a kinder world where everyone has a neighborhood they can rely on.
For local businesses, Nextdoor instantly connects everyone from brick-and-mortar stores to local service providers with their most valuable customers – their neighbors. On Nextdoor, local businesses become trusted members of the neighborhood and develop loyal and long-term relationships.”
With over 10 million users in 260,000 active neighborhoods in 11 countries, businesses that depend on local customers should be targeting Nextdoor with these posts, especially since they are free.
If you do have a local business you should make it a practice to check in every few days or so to monitor your online reputation. There are countless examples of disgruntled customers going to Nextdoor to voice their complaints. Businesses that are on top of it can address those complaints only if they know they’ve been posted.
Should Your Business Start Creating Posts on Nextdoor?
Here’s a short list of Pros and Cons we’ve encountered so far with Nextdoor Business Posts.
Pros:
- They’re fairly new so most of your competitors don’t know about them – yet! Get on it!
- Visible to areas where your business has been recommended! This could be very big.
- They’re Free!
Cons:
- They don’t help your site’s SEO or Local Google presence. Since the posts are not visible to anyone on the internet (users need to be logged in to Nextdoor for it to function) they are not indexed by Google.
- Your posts are only visible to areas where your business has been recommended by current Nextdoor users.
- Can only do 4 per month and must be spaced out by at least 1 day.
- Can’t format for readability. That means no bold, italic,s or hard returns.
- No stats on the number of people who’ve seen them – this is a big one.
So, should your business start creating Nextdoor Business Posts? Yes! Get on it!
