In this article, we dove into the mystery that is the "Listicle!” The Listicle is one of those ubiquitous top ten lists you see everywhere. Read on to learn why you need to be creating them now for your local business.

Why Do People Like Listicles?

  • They require minimal effort
Listicles enable many people to have the information they need when they need it, and to find it with minimal effort.

  • Short and sweet—exactly what works well online
Listicles are pleasantly brief and relevant. It works for people who are in a hurry.

  • Give answers quickly and succinctly

How Should Your Local Business Use Listicles?

  • Make a list of the best services or things in your city

Let’s say, for example, you are a plumber. You can create a listicle about the top 10 things you do not want to put down your garbage disposal. You have to make it a list and put a description of why you would not want to put it down there. You can add some photos as well to keep the reader intrigued.

  • Make a list of the top 10 problems your customers have

Every day, your customers communicate with your company in some way. Your team will undoubtedly face obstacles and difficulties at some stage. Search and analyze the reasons behind the customer problems, make a list of the top 10 customer challenges, and their solutions.

  • Make a list of the services you provide and then the top providers in your area - yours at the top

You want to highlight the services you provide. You may want to make a list of the top 10 service providers in your city. For example, if you are a roofing company, you can make a list of the top 10 roofers in your area. You would write great stuff about your company and it would be number 1 on the list. Then, go to some other roofing company’s website, gather good content, paraphrase, and put them on that top 10 list. When somebody searches for the top 10 roofers in that area, there is a great chance that your article is going to show up on the search results

  • Use odd numbers, and use numbers in your list

When you make your listicles, it is also a great idea to use odd numbers. For some reason, people click through to articles with odd numbers more than they do with even numbers. So, just pick an odd number and fill up those numbers with good and quality content.

  • Geographically relevant content

One thing that Google really takes into account when they are going to give your business prominence over others is your geographical relevance. You may want to do listicles like Top 10 Best Dog Parks, or Top 10 Best Schools, or Top 10 Landmarks in your area. Those are examples of articles that Google sees as geographically relevant. Adding that geographical relevance to your site is just another signal to Google that you are a member of the community, local, and an authority.
