Wix is one of the easiest website builders on the market today, but is it right for your business? In this article, we detail the pros and cons of the Wix platform so you can make the right decision for you and your business.
Top Cons with Wix
Wix does not offer an email address with your domain.
Since Wix does not link your email address with your domain, you have to find another email provider like Google or Rackspace. It is another bill for your website fees.
The loading speed can be slow
Wix page loading speeds can be slow. Because users do not think that the larger the image, the longer it is going to take for that website to load, Wix will not notify you if you are using an image too large. You have to make sure that the images you have are reduced in size and optimized before putting them on your site.
Another thing that causes your Wix site to slow down is animations. Wix allows you to do a ton of animations on the site. It is a really cool concept, except when you overdo it. To improve the loading speed of your Wix site, you can either minimize using animations or not use them at all.
Have to take care of the mobile version separately - sometimes it does crazy things
Wix has the mobile version and the desktop version. It is weird because every time you make changes on the desktop version, you have to check the mobile version and make sure it does the same on it too. Sometimes you have to move stuff around to make the page look good on the mobile version. It is double work and can be frustrating.
The app market has widgets that add functionality
Wix has this app market which is a bunch of widgets, accordions, booking apps, and a lot of little things that can add functionality to your website. This can be a pro and a con at the same time because there are apps that are buggy and slow down everything. Some of the apps on their app market are usually really good but most of them are not.
Wix prices are a little high when compared to other hosting companies. It has a basic level that costs $13 a month without an email. You have to add another $10 for email which makes it $23 a month. That is a downer because other solutions cost $10 for both a website and an email.
The blog feature is slow
Wix has a blog app that you would think is cool but it is simply not. It is very slow and the SEO on it is not so good.
Top Pros for Going with Wix
The Built-in SEO Optimization process
Once your Wix site is finished and online, they have an SEO Wizard which gives you a step-by-step process on what to do to optimize your pages, titles, and images. It is a good, basic SEO which most users ignore.
The super flexible and small learning curve for solopreneurs
Wix is a user-friendly platform. What you see is what you get. It is faster because you can drag and drop the content to your site.
Extensive app market
Wix has this app market which is a bunch of widgets, accordions, booking apps, and a lot of little things that can add functionality to your website.
Security is taken care of
Wix is an all-in-one platform and security is really taken care of for you. Wix is unhackable, unlike WordPress or Joomla that uses open-source software to run it which gets out of date.
Wix has a ton of features that most people do not know about or take advantage of. The $13 a month comes with a CRM which allows saving the information like the name, phone number, etc, of people who contact you through the site.
Newsletter Feature included
Since you have a way to automatically have that information of their name, phone number, and so on, you can create a newsletter and send it to all those people.
Good customer support
If you encounter a problem, you can reach out to Wix’s customer support through chat. They will always push you to phone support and they will call you within 3 minutes. The problem gets taken care of fast.
